Bathroom Remodel in Everett, WA

Bathroom remodeling that starts under the tile

On a bathroom remodel in Everett, we open the wet area early so we can see the shower pan, the membrane, and any soft substrate before new tile locks the problem in.

The shower pan decides the rest

Soft floorboard at the shower curb, a pan that flexes underfoot, or tile that hollows when you tap it usually means the waterproofing layer failed. Paint and fans matter, but the pan and membrane set whether the room stays dry.

Demo is when we can replace a tired pan liner, extend the membrane up the walls, and slope the floor to the drain the way it should. The bathroom planning guide covers other early decisions.

Project Types

Wet-area failures we catch in demo

These usually show up together.

Undersized or misplaced fan

We size the exhaust fan to the room and place it where steam actually collects, near the shower.

Fans vented into the attic

Ducting is routed to the outside rather than ending in the attic, where moisture causes its own problems.

Mildew on walls and ceiling

Damaged drywall gets replaced with board suited to wet rooms, and finishes are chosen to handle humidity.

Our Process

How the work moves

Waterproofing is checked while the floor is open.

Check airflow and damage

We look at the current fan, where it vents, and any moisture damage, then write the fix into the scope.

Rough-in with the fan run

Demolition, plumbing and electrical rough-in, the new duct run, and waterproofing.

Close up and finish

Drywall, tile, vanity, fixtures, the fan and its controls, then a punch-list walkthrough.

Bathroom Questions

Waterproofing and wet-area questions

Answers about fans, ducts, and moisture.

How do you know if the shower pan failed?

A soft curb, hollow tile, or staining at the threshold are common signs. We probe the substrate during demo before we set a new pan.

Do you redo waterproofing under existing tile?

When the membrane is compromised, yes. We remove finishes as needed, rebuild the wet-area layer, then retile so the room can dry properly.

Can you add a timer or humidity control?

Yes. We can wire the fan to a timer or humidity-sensing control so it keeps running after a shower.

Will you replace drywall that has mildew?

Where the damage goes past the surface, yes. We replace it with material suited to a bathroom before finishing.
