Light and surfaces go together
A counter sample that looks right in the showroom can read darker or busier under your own ceiling lights. Under-cabinet lighting changes how a backsplash looks, and a shiny tile shows every glare spot. So we choose surfaces and light fixtures together and decide where the wiring goes before cabinets are hung.
Your written scope lists every light, switch, and surface selection with what is included and excluded. To weigh finish choices against layout changes, see our kitchen planning guide.
Layout, surfaces, and rough-in scoped together — before demo begins.

Kitchen with under-cabinet lighting and tile backsplash
Project Types
Lighting and finish upgrades
Each of these changes how the kitchen looks and how well you can see to work.
Task lighting at the counters
Under-cabinet lights put light where you cut and prep. The wiring is roughed in before cabinets go up.
Counter and backsplash pairings
We look at counter and tile samples side by side, in your kitchen’s light when possible, before anything is ordered.
Ceiling and pendant layout
Recessed lights and pendants over an island are spaced to the final cabinet plan, so they land where they are useful.

Our Process
Wiring first, finishes last
Light locations are set while the walls are open.
Pick finishes and fixtures
We measure, review samples with you, and mark every fixture, switch, and outlet on the plan.
Rough-in the lighting
Selective demolition, then electrical and plumbing rough-in for the new fixture locations, with adjacent rooms protected.
Set surfaces and trim out
Cabinets, counters, and backsplash go in, then light fixtures are trimmed out and we walk the punch list together.

Kitchen Questions
Lighting and finish questions
What people ask about fixtures, counters, and tile.
When do we need to pick light fixtures?
Before rough-in. Box locations are set while the walls are open, so fixtures and switch positions need to be decided early, even if the fixtures themselves arrive later.
Can I add under-cabinet lights to existing cabinets?
Often, yes, though hiding the wiring is easier when cabinets are new. We look at what you have and price both ways.
Should the backsplash be picked before the counter?
Usually the counter comes first, because it has fewer options and longer lead times. Tile is easier to match to stone than the other way around.
Do glossy finishes cause glare?
They can under strong overhead light. We look at samples under your lighting plan before you commit.
