Tub-to-shower conversions, planned before demo

Can the tub become a shower?

Usually, yes, but the details decide how it goes. The drain has to move to the right spot and size for a shower. The curb height, or whether there is a curb at all, depends on the floor framing. The glass needs room to swing or slide, and the valve often moves to a more comfortable height.

We check each of these at the walkthrough and write the answers into your scope. If you are still deciding whether to keep a tub somewhere in the house, read the bathroom planning guide first.

Project Types

Shower layouts that replace a tub

The space a tub leaves behind supports several layouts.

Curbed walk-in shower

The most common conversion: a low curb, a sloped base, and a glass panel or door.

Low-curb or curbless entry

A lower or flush entry when the floor framing allows the slope to be built in.

Shower with bench and niche

The extra length of a tub alcove often has room for a built-in bench or shelf, sealed before tile.

Our Process

Steps in a conversion

The tub comes out only after the shower layout is settled.

Measure and lay out

We confirm drain location, curb, valve height, and glass clearance, then put them in the written scope.

Remove tub and rough-in

The tub comes out, the drain and valve are moved, and the base and membrane go in.

Tile, glass, and trim

Wall and floor tile, glass, fixtures, and trim, followed by a punch-list walkthrough.

Bathroom Questions

Tub-to-shower questions

What people ask before removing a tub.

Will removing our only tub hurt resale?

It can matter to some buyers, especially families with young kids. If there is another tub in the house, it is usually less of a concern.

Can the shower be curbless?

Sometimes. It depends on whether the floor framing allows the slope to be recessed. We check before promising a flush entry.

Does the drain need to move?

Usually. A tub drain sits at one end, and a shower drain has to suit the new slope. Moving it is part of the rough-in.

What kind of glass works best?

A fixed panel, hinged door, or slider, depending on clearance from the toilet and vanity. We measure before you choose.
